We Are Members of AmCham

For several years we have been members of AmCham, the American Chamber of Commerce in Argentina, and we participate in its activities. AmCham is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting bilateral trade between the two countries for over 100 years. This year we had the opportunity to work together, contributing our expertise to create content for their platform.

Working Together

One of the joint activities was to create a podcast in English for AmCham Connect, AmCham’s exclusive content platform. The idea behind each podcast is for the listener to acquire new skills and tools. This aligns with our mission, which is to offer technology-based language education services focused on human development.
This project also aligns with our added value: the integration of technology with relevant content and innovative methodologies in our business English courses. In addition, the more exposure the student has, the more effective the learning is. This is the case with podcasts, which have the dual impact of exposing the learner to the language and providing different types of knowledge and topics for soft skills acquisition.

Podcast on Cross-Cultural Communication

Strategies to Improve Cross-Cultural Communication, the podcast we did in cooperation with AmCham is about strategies to improve cross-cultural communication. The participants are Mariana Pozzi Salgado, CEO of English Services, and two of our facilitators, Aaron Hagler and Tim Read, from the United States and Great Britain, respectively.
The aim of this entertaining talk is that the listeners, mostly Latin Americans, can acquire the necessary tools to improve communication in English in various situations, such as on a business trip or in a work meeting in the United States or Great Britain, and reduce or prevent culture shock.
It is not necessarily a question of what words or phrases to use, but of attitudes that one must take into account to avoid misunderstandings that can ruin the purpose of the meeting or visit. Important points include time management, i.e. punctuality; what topics to avoid, such as the political situation of the countries; body language and familiarity in dealing with each other, which is not advisable.
As was emphasised in the talk, one learns by listening and observing, so, to bridge the cultural gap, the best thing to do is to listen and pay attention and imitate the behaviour of others. The key is adaptability. As the popular saying goes, ‘When in Rome, do as the Romans do’.
